The second act.

Mercari sells used stuff. So, for the holiday season, we wrote our version of the island of misfit toys–a musical starring secondhand items from Mercari about how they were going to put on a musical to show the world that secondhand gifts are one-of-a-kind. The title? The Second Act. The conflict? The socks are sabotaging this musical because if more gifts are bought on Mercari, less socks will be given as gifts.

Was the script at least 10 minutes? Yes. Did we make it into pre-production and build a puppet stage? Absolutely. Did it get killed two days before we were going to shoot? Obviously.

All that remains is a script I’ll share if you beg me, and this musical number I wrote and recorded for the opening and closing scenes.

There’s nothing misfit about me

I just haven’t found the perfect home.

I’ve got a story and secrets

nothing’s quite me, that much I know.

That’s why secondhand is first for me

an item with a story

wrapped with care and placed under the tree.

It’s the only way to show your favorite person

they’re as one of a kind

as only a one of a kind

gift can be.
